Robin Hanson on AI, Culture, and the Future of Civilization
In this episode I talk with Robin Hanson about AI and cultural evolution. I ask him why he thinks mental capacities are fragmented and why there is no dial to turn in AI systems to simply get more intelligence. We then talk about why he expects cultural evolution to continue in AIs, and why he expects them to take on certain features of human psychology and behavior. We close by talking about making decisions about values in the very long run.
