Steve Pincus on Empire and Revolution
In this episode I talk to the great early modern historian Steve Pincus about his classic book on the Glorious Revolution and on his current book project on the British Empire. We talk about James II’s project of Catholic modernity, the various Whig and Tory successes coming out of the revolution, and different ideologies behind the British Empire in the 17th an 18th centuries. We also talk about his general theories of revolution, empire, and early modern state consolidation.
